Passacaglia was commissioned for Austin Snider in 2006. A passacaglia is an old term for a repeated bassline upon which several variations are built. The passacaglia theme is heard the piano for the first eight measures. The theme disappears through the middle of the piece but returns after a saxophone cadenza.
