The Spooklight is inspired by a naturally occurring phenomenon in Southwest Missouri near the Oklahoma border. It is most often described as an orange ball of light that bounces along a dirt road known as the Devil's Promenade. The first documented reports of the spooklight date to 1881. It has been the subject of many studies, but there is no known explanation for its occurrence.
